The Atmosphere

¡Excellent, this weather is perfect for a new adventure! Simply in a blouse, pants, and running shoes, I am ready for this project.
It is Wednesday afternoon and Syracuse University is bright from the sun. A lot of students are happy to be outside. They play football on Comstock, girls walk on the sidewalks and I see runners in their element run very fast on this spring day.
This spring day is a special day also, for my Spanish class group. Leah, Jacey, Anthony and I gather in front of a dorm and we prepare to embark on an adventure for our final project of Spanish class. We take the first step to our final destination. For the start of our adventure, we walk on Clarendon Street. Clarendon Street has a lot of trees, colorful houses along the street, cats that sit in front of the houses, and a very calm atmosphere. We walk to the town of Westcott. We see Westcott Street and we know that we are close to our final destination.
We turn the corner and there are stores, boutiques, cafés, more small houses, and restaurants. Now, we look for the Mexican restaurant named “Alto Cinco.” We see a place with a bright wall that has a lot of color, but this isn’t the restaurant. We walk a little on the street and see a sign with turquoise writing that says “Alto Cinco.” Our excitement mounts as we notice the chairs, tables, and decorations outside of the restaurant.
Finally, we arrive to our desination and we take a step inside the door. Immediately, the walls are turquoise and there are a lot of vividly colored authentic decorations on the walls. The cooks are behind the counter and they are working hard. The cooks make Mexican pizza and the movements are fast. This room is very small and it is for the people that want their food "to go." There is a big menu on the wall above and there are a lot of options to order.
Leah, Jacey, Anthony and I wait for a table in the bigger room, the dining room. The man that works in the bar shows us to our table. The table is next to the window and perfect for four. We talk about the menu and the tasty food we want to order. We read about the appetizers, quesadillas, enchiladas, meat dishes, tacos, fish, and all of the Mexican pizzas. We decide on the nachos with a lot of ingredients like cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Then, we order the chicken and pesto quesadillas. The quesadillas are fantastic and the salsa and guacamole on the side of the plate are delicious.
During the dinner, we notice that the dining room too has a lot of things that are authentic. The walls are yellow and above our heads there are pretty decorations, also the style and design of the ceiling is unique. The clients of the restaurant are older than us and they seem artistic and mysterious. The bar has a lot of character; a woman sits and reads a book while drinking a glass of white wine. The man that works behind the bar has long black hair and wears a white shirt. Another man behind the bar wears a hat on top of his head and cleans the coffee machine.
We ask our waiter some questions about the restaurant, the famous dishes to eat, the usual clients, the atmosphere, and why this restaurant is unique and special to the Syracuse community and the community of Westcott.
At the end of our experience at “Alto Cinco” we are very content and we are not hungry anymore after the dinner. We pay and leave Westcott; we begin our trip to return to the University.
